Speech and Drama Lessons by Ellie

June 4th, 2007 by mrsmc in Extra-Curricular Activities · No Comments

Speech and drama is an activity at school which is taught by Mrs Coman. At speech and drama you do skits and when you start a skit you feel like you’re in a proper situation in real life and if you can’t think of anything to say Mrs Coman is sure to help you.

At the end of the year we do a big performance with a lot of people there. Speech and drama is a lot of fun I think that it teaches confidence and it is also a time to express yourself. At our school speech and drama is available from year’s prep-year 7. I think that is good because the little kids can learn from an early stage Confidence and expressing yourself and not feeling that you seem silly doing a different voice or acting differently to what you normally act like. I think that it is a privilege to have speech and drama at our school so I’m glad that I can do it as one of my lunchtime activities.

Evidence of Justice in our School by Maddy

June 4th, 2007 by mrsmc in Religious Education · School · 1 Comment

This term in Religion we are doing most of it on justice. Today I will tell you about one thing. That one thing is what we have been doing over the past couple of weeks, working on the question:” A visitor comes to the school for a week. What evidence would they have of justice at the school?”. We came up with some answers and voted on the top ten. Here are the top ten answers:1-    They would feel safe and welcomed.2-  They would see people being patient.3-   Hear people using good manners-please & thank-you.4-   See people being safe at the

Grove St

pickup area.5-   They would see children and staff smiling.6-   Experiencing classes moving quietly moving past other classes.7-   Teachers supporting children.8-   Helping people when they are hurt.9-   Seeing People being included in games.10-                      Watching children letting adults go first. Those are our top ten answers I hope that you agree that this happens!

Interschool Sport by Daniel

June 4th, 2007 by mrsmc in Health and Physical Education · Inter-School Sport · Links with the Community · No Comments

St Ignatius has interschool sport every Friday at the end of term one and for most of term 2. We have three sports: netball, football, and we have soccer. We all take the bus to Graceville and Indooroopilly. The boys and girls lost their first game. We play different schools like,

Graceville
State
School boys and girls and Indooroopilly and Sherwood. Daniel

Every Friday at 12:15 we go to Graceville to play a game of touch football. We travel by minibus and have 11 people in our team. Our Year 5 teacher, Mr. Byrne, takes us to footy. He’s very nice and he is also our referee in most games. Some games start at 1:20 and some start at 1:40. We have a 20 minute first half and then a break when the other team’s game starts. When their first half finishes, we start our second half. After Touch we go back to school and play chess, computer games or card games. Only the boys in year 5 and 6 go to touch because the Year 7 class is all girls. The 5,6 and 7 girls have a choice, they could go to soccer or netball but not touch.

Classroom Jobs by Abeni

June 4th, 2007 by mrsmc in Classroom Management · ICLTs · Mystery Raffle · No Comments

In year six we all have our own responsibilities. These are usually day to day tasks like, photocopier monitor (if the teacher has something to be photocopied you have to do it for her), filing (file out important notices in brand new pigeon holes!), Lunch crates( bring three lunch crates down first break one in second break),footy tipping ( type up footy tipping results on an EXCEL spreadsheet and print it), computer start up/ shut down (turn on+off computer) , white board (clean white board), Tuck shop ( collect tuck shop), time keeper ( takes care of the computer timers), messages ( gets messages from the office and answers the phone), lost property ( take care of lost property).

A note from Mrs Mc – Sadly, Abeni forgot to mention that there is also a raffle ticket job to be done each week on Thursday nights in order for Mrs Mc’s Mystery Raffle to be held on Friday.  I’m a bit sad because sometimes the people who are rostered on forget this job also which means we have to wait for our raffle – which is the highlight of the week in Year 6.

Lifestyle Homework – What We Watched and What We Taught

May 19th, 2007 by mrsmc in ICLTs · Lifestyle Homework · Uncategorized · No Comments

I’m blogging about the tasks that I was most interested in seeing the results of over the past fortnight.  There were 14 out of 22 sheets returned on time this fortnight so we’re improving.

One was “Cultural/Music” – Choose a movie that your whole family will enjoy and watch it together.  (Some people watched TV shows)

The Simpsons

The Devil Wears Prada

Casino Royale

Happy Feet

Night at the Museum

Crocodile Dundee

Toy Story 2

Thomas the Tank Engine (to appease a younger sibling!)

Sky High

Gallipoli

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe

Drawing with Einstein and Faber-Castell

Fluke

Charlotte’s Web

Monk

The other was “Teach An Adult” – Teach an adult in your family something you have learned to do on the computer this year.  It’s really nice to see some of the things we’ve learnt in class being spread a bit further.  From personal experience I can say that leanring to make tables in Microsoft Word changed my life a few years ago!

Microsoft Excel – members of our class are using this each week to keep track of our all important footy tipping scores!

How to make a text box

How to make a table in Microsoft Word x 3

One student taught her Mum how to use PowerPoint for work!

How to change screensavers

Our New Computer Desk by Jordan

May 16th, 2007 by mrsmc in ICLTs · 3 Comments

Before our new desk there was old and small computer desk.It was small and cramped and was very hard to sit there. One day a woman by the name of Mrs Nichols came to our class and said that she was going to get us a new computer desk. Everyone was excited even me.Mrs Mac said that we will hopefully get the new computer desk on Friday 10th of May.On Friday the new computer desk came and everyone thought it looked so cool. It’s light brown with a keyboard holder that goes in and out.It also has lots of space for my feet to fit in the computer desk.We have had the new computer desk for a week so far.It has been easier to do things on the computer since we have gotten our new computer desk and I think it will always be easier to do things on the computer since we have our new computer.Thank-you Mrs Nichols from Year 6

Library Monitors by Inuksha

May 9th, 2007 by mrsmc in Extra-Curricular Activities · Library · 3 Comments

In year 6 we get the opportunity to apply for the job of being a library monitor. Our First step was writing a letter saying that we would like to do the job and what our good qualities are. Then our librarian, Mrs Wilson, read the letters and will invite us for an interview. I know this experience will come in handy when I grow up and I think letting students monitor the library is a great.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Inuksha

May 9th, 2007 by mrsmc in Assembly · Italian · No Comments

In Italian so far this term we have been working on Carnival celebrated in
Italy. For this special celebration we are doing an assembly. In Yr.6 we are singing a song called Arlechino. In the song we have people who are dressing up as the caricatures. Jesse is Arlechino, Emma is Colombina, I am Pucinello and Brigitte is Pantelone. We are all looking forward to Friday the 18th of May!
